Zimbabwe is a very beautiful country full of rare and unique attributes, but tonight when I viewed internet videos about the country's instability, rate of inflation, spread of disease (including cholera and HIV), and democracy not being honored during elections (it appeared that individuals were threatened into voting for Mugabe), I really became upset. I am currently working on my Masters in Environmental Health, and I can say that the spread of disease was unecessary and due in part to food and water contamination. I think the people of Zimbabwe who have suffered through this are extremely courageous and strong-willed, and though some have died, others maintain a will to live under such conditions, and that says a lot. While I understand that there are injustices all over the world, I was touched by what I saw tonight and will keep the country of Zimbabwe in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that one day I will have the opportunity to open a school for orphaned children or a new medical clinic in Zimbabwe to join the movement in restoring hope.
